The Swedish parliament transposed the EU directive by publication of the Act on the protection of participation in public debate in disputes with cross-border implications and Ordinance amending the Legal Information Ordinance in Swedish Collection of Statutes (SFS).

A draft law has been prepared by the Swedish government titled “Act on Protection of Participation in Public Debate”, set to enter into force on 1 May 2026.
However, it will only apply to cross-border civil cases, excluding domestic SLAPPs and actions related to freedom of expression under existing national rules.
